A Critical Incident, is a
traumatic event which is outside the normal range of human
experience. These events are usually sudden and powerful
incidents and have a strong and decisive impact which is
sufficient to overwhelm the normal coping mechanisms of
individuals or groups.
Such events can occur as the result of natural disasters,
criminal acts, terrorism, poor planning, or simple bad
luck. These occurrences cannot always be prevented, but
they can be planned for, and their impact can be
minimized.
Prevention remains critically important, but given the continuing increase in the type, frequency, and severity of
incidents, a complete security solution must consist of deploying a dynamic defense, monitoring that defense, and crafting a strategy for RESPONDING in the event of
a crisis.
